Motorcyclist awareness month

Share the road, keep everyone safe

Every October, we celebrate Motorcyclist Awareness Month (MAM) - a time to remind everyone on the road to look out for each other. It’s about sparking conversations, sharing stories, and building habits that help riders and drivers all get home safely.

While all of us face risks on the road, the outcomes can be much worse for motorcyclists. That’s why MAM isn’t just about riders - it’s about all of us. Whether you’re behind the handlebars, the wheel, or simply crossing the street, we all have a role to play in keeping roads safe.

This month we’ll be focusing on simple things that make a big difference: being visible, checking blind spots, wearing the right gear, and respecting each other’s space.  It’s a reminder to take extra care on the roads this month, and every month. At the heart of it is one simple message: share the road, keep everyone safe.

  • Around 60% of motorcyclist deaths involve another vehicle - most often at intersections or when drivers fail to check blind spots.

  • Every year, more than 2,500 people are injured in motorcycle crashes across Victoria.
